Dubai to the World: Maher El Tabchy’s 30KM Swim for Juvenile Arthritis & Autism Awareness

Maher El Tabchy

On March 1st, the waters off the coast of Dubai became more than a backdrop-they became a stage for purpose, pain, and resilience. Maher El Tabchy, endurance swimmer and founder of Tabchilli, took on a 30-kilometre open water swim around Dubai’s iconic World Islands, completing it in just over 10 hours-all to raise awareness for Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis (JIA) and Autism.

This wasn’t just a physical challenge. It was a mission:

“So no child suffers in silence.”- Maher El Tabchy

A Cause That Hits Deep

JIA is a debilitating autoimmune condition that causes chronic pain, stiffness, and swelling in children-often going undiagnosed for years. Alongside Autism, both conditions are deeply underfunded, under-recognized, and misunderstood. Maher’s swim aimed to change that narrative-one stroke at a time.

Featured in Khaleej Times, the swim became a rallying point for community-driven impact.

From Gut to Grit: The Training & Nutrition

Months of preparation went into this feat-from long-distance swims to recovery protocols, to a carefully engineered diet rich in fermented foods like kimchi, sauerkraut, and kombucha. Gut health wasn’t just part of Maher’s recovery-it was a core performance asset.

Tabchilli’s own products-raw, probiotic-rich, and crafted to support immunity, energy, and inflammation recovery-played a central role in fueling every phase of this journey.

Impact That Lasts Beyond the Water

The swim raised not just awareness, but direct donations to support the missions of:

  • Juvenile Arthritis Research (UK-based charity)
  • Al Jalila Foundation (UAE-based child health and research initiative)

The funds will support research, early diagnosis efforts, and patient care, helping children access treatments and families get the answers they deserve.

“Endurance doesn’t just live in the muscles. It lives in your reason for showing up. This swim was for every kid who wakes up with pain and doesn’t know why.” Maher El Tabchy
